unity tutorial 4

                                    Unity Tutorial 4

Hello
Welcome to my blog
Today I was looking at more unity tutorials and I was learning more about coding and game design. I looked at tutorials I found on the Unity website and I looked at three tutorials.
I looked at Lesson 2.1 - Player Positioning, Lesson 2.2 - Food Flight and Lesson 2.3 - Random Animal Stampede.

The first tutorial looked at Lesson 2.1 - Player Positioning in this tutorial it was used to help set up the game and how to get the player to move so this is the simple set up to start the game so it was a good way to start this process.

The second tutorial I looked at Lesson 2.2 - Food Flight  this tutorial goes into more detail. This should me how to use prefabs and and how to use more coding to use items in the game.

The last tutorial 2.3 Lesson 2.3 - Random Animal Stampede like how to control the spawn of the characters in a game. This is a big part of game design and will help me with my own game making as controlling spawning in a game is important.

Overall this these tutorials  have helped learn important things about game d

Hello
Welcome to my blog

This week I continued my research and looked at few looked at other sources that i was able to find online. the two topics that I am looking at for the book is gameplay analysis and Game Design Tools. So went to look for sources about these online.

I first looked at Gameplay analysis research and i was able to find "Game analysis: Developing a methodological toolkit for the qualitative study of games" by Mia Consalvo, Nathan Dutton this scholar article  talked about methodological toolkit for game design so this article talks about sort of way to approach game design it talks about a few games and how this approach to game design applies to these games and how they were designed. It also goes into detail about how to approach object inventory and other main parts of a game.

The second topic I looked was "Game design tools: Time to evaluate" by Katharine Neil this evaluates game desgin tools and what games will be like without them and games designers use the tools to make the games. So this goes deep into how game design tools work and how important there to game design.

Game Idea Research

                                    Idea's for my game

Hello
Welcome to my blog
Now that I’m in the process of making a game I need to look at my four ideas and pick one which I think will suit best for my game. I want to go with my first idea which I make a fighting game using real life fighters and have so you run into other fighters and you have to defeat them all to win the game I will have to see how this game will work om unity before I actually go with this idea and make it into a game. This game will have a few mechanics to it:

1.       Fighting: In this game you will pick a fighter and fight other fighters in one on one fights. This will be a fight like a mortal Kombat fight. So, each fight will be 3 rounds and the first one to win 2 is the winner and there will be different moves depending on what you press.

2.       Running into fighters: This game will work like Pokemon. So, the game is an open world free roam game and you run into fighters and fight them. You will have to find the fighters around the map to be able to fight them, but you can fight who you want when you want.

3.       The game will also have doors you have to open to get to the next section of the game. So, you will have to defeat other fighters to get their belts and open the door so you can move onto the next section of the game.

So, I will have to see if I can make this game on unity in the time, I must make the game. I do think it will be difficult to make the game, but I do think this will be a good game to make.

Unity Tutorial 02

                            Step two in game making

Hello
Welcome to my blog.

Now that I have started to use unity, I’m able to see how difficulty the process in making a video game. Last week I looked over how make objects and making terrain in Unity so now I’m expanding on my knowledge on unity.

Today I’m looking at Jimmy Vegas and going through the next steps of tutorials. The first video I watched I learned about improving graphics for a game. There was a lot more coding involved then last week. I also learned in the first video how to collect an item and it to make a noise when it’s collected.

For the second video I watch I learned how to use raycast. This is used for what you can see within the game. I also learned  by going into game object tab and go into UI tab and then select raw image. This then will be displayed in front of you when you’re playing but you will able to change it around to help fix your view of the game.

There is a lot more detail in these videos but I found it difficult to do these in unity, so I need to go back to these and figure out how to do the tasks in the videos

The many Game Elements

                                      Game Elements

Hello
Welcome to my blog
There are many important elements video games and if I’m going to be making a game, I should read up on these and learn the elements.

An important element to look at for a game is critical analysis. As I read though a reading, I was able to see the three-step process in analyzing a game.
Image result for game making
1.       Describe the game’s elements.
2.       How do the elements interact with each other and what the game play is like?
3.       Look at why the designers of the game in the way they did.

So, looking at a game critical is an important element of game making as you can learn from your mistakes and other people mistakes so you can fix them in the future. From the reading I learned the core of game is the part of the game that you do over and over in the game e.g Call of Duty shooting is the core of the game.

I also read an article called “Formal Abstract Design Tools” by Doug Church. https://www.gamasutra.com/view/feature/131764/formal_abstract_design_tools.php?page=2 This article talks about how the modern game has changed compared to what it uses to be. Like how the machines we play games on now are much more powerful and processing is much faster now. In this article Doug talk about how important it is to have a language for game design so we can discuss game making in a better way so games can be made better.

Another article I read was “Where to find good video games criticism” by Helen Lewis.  https://www.newstatesman.com/helen-lewis/2012/12/where-find-good-videogames-criticism This article talks about how big video game journalism is and how criticising games needs to grow and there’s not as much of it as there should be. So, more people can learn to make better games.

Overall an important part of elements of game making is criticizing games so we can learn and become better game makers. Another element is to have language foe game making so it will better to discuss games.
