Unity Tutorial 05

                      Game making with unity

Hello
Welcome to my blog
Today I’m going through more unity tutorials so I can learn the process of game making. I’m again looking at Jimmy Vegas videos.

The first video of him I watched was part 6 if unity tutorial series.  In this video Jimmy talks about adding more UI elements and to create a dynamic sensor. This requires a lot of work and is a long process using multiply UI sensors.

The second video I watched was part 7 of the tutorial. This video goes into making weapons using animation. This is something new because this is the first time, I used animation in unity. For this tutorial I used an axe for the weapon. I download the asset and then made the axe face the same way as my character did by turning the axe 90 degrees. Then using layering to make the axe doesn’t go through anything.

The last video I watched was part 8 of tutorial. This video talks about layering and going through all the layers to use to make the everything in the game works together and none of the objects in the game go through each other.

Feedback Strategies

                                 Feedback Strategies

Hello
Welcome to my blog
Today I’m looking at how to give good feedback. I did this by reading two articles on giving good feedback.

The first article I read was “Five Reasons to Stop Saying "Good Job!" by Alfie Kohn
http://www.amblesideschools.com/sites/default/files/Five%20Reasons%20to%20Stop%20Saying%20%20Good%20Job!.pdf  This article talks how about saying “good job” is bad and the reasons why.
1.       Manipulating children
2.       Creating praise junkies
3.       Stealing a child’s pleasure
4.       Losing interest
5.       Reducing achievement

All these reasons tell us why telling someone they did a good job to children will affect them in a negative way and it’s not good feedback

The second article I read was “The Difference Between Praise and Feedback” by mindshift  https://www.kqed.org/mindshift/34778/the-difference-between-praise-and-feedbackthis article talks about how to prise your kids the right way so they will have a growth mindset. You do this by prising a kid’s work progress and not the work itself.

These articles show that you need to give good feedback and you need to give feedback the right way.

                              The process of designing

Hello
Welcome to my blog
This week’s reading is about the components and process of game designing.  This will help me with designing my game.

The first reading was “Design Considerations”  by Greg Aleknevicus. http://www.thegamesjournal.com/articles/DesignConsiderations.shtml
This reading talks about the physical presentation of the game. This article talks about more about broad games and the way there put together. It first talks about the components of a game like making cards and spaces in broad game the same size or to use colour to distinguish game pieces. He also talks about how the box of the game is the most important part of the physical presentation of game. He talks about how the theme of the game should work with the rules of the game. This article talks more about the physical appearance of a game and important it is to a game. It also talks about how make a good physical presentation of the game.

The additional reading I found online is “What is game design” https://www.internationalstudent.com/study-game-design/what-is-game-design/
This article talks about what game design is. “Game design is a subset of the field of video game development”. The article goes into detail about the process of game designing. There is a huge team of developers working on a game.
1.       The game writers
2.       Level designer
3.       The content designer
4.       Programmer for the game
5.       The world designer
6.       The interface designer
This is the team that design a game. All these teams work together to design a game.

These reading gave me an insight on game designing and I’m able to learn from this. I was able to the process of game design and what the important elements are in game design from the aspect of the game and the team that designs a game.

Game Idea Research

                                    Idea's for my game

Hello
Welcome to my blog
Now that I’m in the process of making a game I need to look at my four ideas and pick one which I think will suit best for my game. I want to go with my first idea which I make a fighting game using real life fighters and have so you run into other fighters and you have to defeat them all to win the game I will have to see how this game will work om unity before I actually go with this idea and make it into a game. This game will have a few mechanics to it:

1.       Fighting: In this game you will pick a fighter and fight other fighters in one on one fights. This will be a fight like a mortal Kombat fight. So, each fight will be 3 rounds and the first one to win 2 is the winner and there will be different moves depending on what you press.

2.       Running into fighters: This game will work like Pokemon. So, the game is an open world free roam game and you run into fighters and fight them. You will have to find the fighters around the map to be able to fight them, but you can fight who you want when you want.

3.       The game will also have doors you have to open to get to the next section of the game. So, you will have to defeat other fighters to get their belts and open the door so you can move onto the next section of the game.

So, I will have to see if I can make this game on unity in the time, I must make the game. I do think it will be difficult to make the game, but I do think this will be a good game to make.

Game Vision Statement

                                           My game

Hello
Welcome to my blog.
Image result for fighting games
                                                              Fighter
This is the game I’m designing in Unity. This game is an open world fighting game. This game will be based on real life fighters but it’s the parody version them. You will be able to pick one the fighters and explore the world picking fighter. This will be a 3d game. The game will be mix between Pokemon with its open world and like street fighter with the fighting in the game.  This will be a fun unique fighting game.

As I said this game will be a mix between Pokemon and Street fighter. The game will have a few real life fighters like Conor Mcgregor and movie fighters like Rocky. Instead of using the real versions of them for the game I will be sing parody versions of the fighters in the game. For example, Conor proper 12 and Socky. For the game you will have to go around the map finding all the other fighters and defeating them in one on one fights to get their belts. If you defeat all them and get their belts you will be able to open the door and win the game.

This game will have:
Open world experience
One on one fights
A selection of fighters
Challenging game play
Multiplayer one on one fights.

The gameplay will consist of looking all the map looking for other fighters to fight. Once you go up to the other fighter and interact with them. This will trigger the game to change into a one on one with the fighter. The fight will work like other fighting games with a health bar and each of the fighters having different moves. So, for example it would work like Street fighter and Mortal Kombat. Once you beat the other fighter this will earn their belt which will work as key to open the door at the end of the map. You choose who you want to fight when you want but the further you go down the map the harder the fighters will be to defeat. There will also be hidden belts around the map that you can find to open the door. I will also try if I have extra time to have multiplayer where two people can pick fighters so they can fight each other. This will make the extra fun because it will become more competitive. This will give the chance for the player to try out all the different characters and have fun with their friends.
Image result for fighting games

The words I would use to describe this game is an open world, adventure, fighter, sports, parody and puzzle game. All of this will combine to make a unique and fun game.

This game will take a lot work, time and learning to make. I will have been to get all the assets for the game as well and look around the internet for them. I will have to learn how to make one on one fights between the character you play as and the character you must fight. There is videos online explain these and it will take a lot of time and effort to do this. I will have to look on the internet for the right assets for the map of the game and the characters. The thing this requires is time and I will need to organize time to do this.

I’m hoping for this game played on multiply platforms, but I will be focusing on playing the game on PC which is where I’m making it. I’m hoping that I will have the time to add multiplayer as well if I have the time to do this after I make the single player version of the game.  I do prefer playing games with a controller and I think fighting games work much better with a controller.
Fighter games are popular genre in the gaming community.  Games like Pokemon and Mortal Kombat are very popular and well regarded. This shows that a fighting game will be a good idea as it’s a type pf genre that works well and is very popular. If look how they made their games Those games have a designed their game in such way that the fighting of the game comes fun and addictive.

Overall, I’m looking to make an open world fighting game. This will be a long and challenging process. If work hard and plan my time out I think I will be able to make this game. Which I think will make a fun experience for the player.

Unity Tutorial 03

                            Coding in game making

Hello
Welcome to my blog.
File:Metric clock.JPG
This week I'm learning game making through Unity I'm learning how to use coding in Unity.
For this week my task is to make a working clock in Unity.

I started by creating a 3d cylinder and then changing the shape of the object into a flat circle by using the mesh collider and capsule tools. The next step was to create batons on the clock. This was done by making a 3d cube and changing the size and shape of it by using the transform tool. Then I changed the colour of baton and then I copied the baton and going all around the clock. After that I made the clock hands
scene
After making the clock I had to code it the clock to make it work like a real clock. This is along process where which I code the arms to around the circle at certain speed to simulate how a clock works. I must make the clock arms are always rotating.

Overall this process was a difficult one that took a long time to do but it was a way for me to learn coding for unity that I can use in my game.

Games MDA

                                   Process of making a game

Hello
Welcome to my blog.

There’s a lot to making a game. One part to making is the formal to the game so how the game works. From what I read from the readings this week I was able to find out more about game development.
https://www.flickr.com/photos/radjose/4460564381

The first part to making a game is the formal model of game consumption which is a game must have rules and a system behaviour both of these will make the game fun. There is also the three views of a game which are:

The mechanics: These are the rules of the game. These are the actions the player are limited to.

Dynamics: This how the game is played, like how the player plays the game with the set of rules.

Aesthetics: This how the game works so it’s the elements of the game that give the look of the
game.

I also found out that there is eight kinds of fun to game they are:
Sensation
Fantasy
Narrative
Challenge
Fellowship
Discovery
Expression
Submission.

There is a lot of elements to the formal of a game and the types of fun you can have in a game.
https://www.pinterest.ie/pin/666462444834401765/?nic=1

There was also an additional reading for me to read. This was a 2006 lecture on designing to promote intentional play by Clint Hocking. http://md2019.cdmonline.ie/designing-to-promote-intentional-play-by-clint-hocking/ This lecture talks about intentional play and the elements of it. Intentional play is “player intention is the ability of the player to devise his own meaningful goals through his understanding of the game dynamics and to formulate meaningful plans to achieve them using the information and resources provided by the game”. The lecture also talks about the orders of intentional play, connecting systems together and intentional play in a messy system.

Overall both these readings helped me understand what I have to do to make my game.

Unity Tutorial 02

                            Step two in game making

Hello
Welcome to my blog.

Now that I have started to use unity, I’m able to see how difficulty the process in making a video game. Last week I looked over how make objects and making terrain in Unity so now I’m expanding on my knowledge on unity.

Today I’m looking at Jimmy Vegas and going through the next steps of tutorials. The first video I watched I learned about improving graphics for a game. There was a lot more coding involved then last week. I also learned in the first video how to collect an item and it to make a noise when it’s collected.

For the second video I watch I learned how to use raycast. This is used for what you can see within the game. I also learned  by going into game object tab and go into UI tab and then select raw image. This then will be displayed in front of you when you’re playing but you will able to change it around to help fix your view of the game.

There is a lot more detail in these videos but I found it difficult to do these in unity, so I need to go back to these and figure out how to do the tasks in the videos
